New Vietnamese restaurant coming to Van Ness; UDC opening cafeteria in Epicurian space

September 3, 2019

Uptown Market isn’t the only new business coming to Van Ness soon.

In a Facebook post, Van Ness Main Street said: “The news is out! Management confirms an early fall opening for Viet Chopsticks (of VA) at 4304 Conn Ave, here in Van Ness. We’ll keep you updated on the latest news and opening dates. Until then, check them out at vietchopsticksrestaurant.com #vannessdc”

4304 Connecticut was previously Parklane Cleaners. And behind that small storefront is a surprisingly large space. When we peeked inside a month ago, framing, electrical and HVAC work were under way.

Viet Chopsticks will be the second Vietnamese restaurant in Van Ness. Pho 14 opened at 4201 Connecticut Avenue in 2013.

Juanita Gray, UDC’s community liaison, announced at the July 23rd ANC 3F meeting that Perkins Catering will be opening a cafeteria-style eatery at 4250 Connecticut in the old Epicurean space. Perkins runs UDC’s food services and was, at that time, aiming for a mid-August opening.

Gray separately told Forest Hills Connection that the cafe’s hours would be weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.

A Potbelly’s across from a Subway and now we will have a Vietnamese restaurant near a Vietnamese restaurant? I’m all for competition but a little diversity would be nice…
