Crime in our neighborhood is down, but your guard should be up

ANC 3F03 Commissioner Mary Beth Ray has this message for us:

MPD reports that crime in ANC 3F is down over 50 percent compared to this time last year. However, several neighbors have written to me over the last few months with experiences of cars being stolen (keys were in the cars), a house broken into (it was unlocked) and two car windows being broken to take purses left on the front seat.

Please remove ALL belongings from your cars, and lock cars and houses. Please also remind your guests, housekeepers and contractors to do the same. We have alerted the police, and MPD reminded folks at last week’s ANC meeting that even something like a winter coat provides motivation for a thief. In beautiful, peaceful Forest Hills it’s hard to remember sometimes that we live in the city, but sadly crime is never far away.
