News On The Avenue: We’ve Got You Covered

June 17, 2012 by FHC

Unfortunately, the beach isn’t at our doorsteps, so we usually have to find other ways (or excuses) to lounge under an umbrella and enjoy the summer breeze. Luckily, many of the restaurants along our stretch of Connecticut Avenue offer al fresco dining. Here are a few:

  • Marvelous Market, pictured here, at 5035 Connecticut.
  • Right next door, Comet Ping Pong, at 5307 Connecticut.
  • Jake’s American Grille, 5018 Connecticut.
  • Terasol, 5010 Connecticut.
  • Italian Pizza Kitchen, 4483 Connecticut.
  • Tesoro, 4400 Connecticut.
  • Acacia Bistro, 4340 Connecticut.
  • Epicurean and Company, 4250 Connecticut.
  • 876 Cafe, 4221-B Connecticut.

News items of note in the past month:

WAMU’s move a done deal: The ink has dried on American University’s $27 million purchase of 4401 Connecticut. The building will become WAMU’s new home. (GlobeSt.com)

They lost the lottery: Because of limited space, nearly 30 in-boundary families who applied to enroll their 4-year-olds in Murch pre-kindergarten classes this fall did not win the 2012-2013 DCPS lottery. So does DC really have universal pre-K? Our education officials say we do. Apparently, it’s all in how you define “universal.” (Greater Greater Washington blog)

Reno Road remembrance: Our piece of Connecticut Avenue gets a few mentions in this loving tribute to Reno Road. (Huffington Post)

A streetcar ran through it: Get a glimpse of DC’s past, and of Forest Hills’ beginnings in this Washington street map from 1892. (Washington Post)

Buck’s has applied for a sidewalk cafe and ANC 3F passed a resolution in support. I believe that it has already passed the Public Space Committee. Expect an outdoor cafe in the near future.

      Pot Belly has outdoor seating.

Quiznos has tables outside, but they don’t have a permit.
