Now open: Shemali’s Market in Van Ness

November 4, 2021

On Wednesday, Shemali’s Market in Van Ness flung its doors open wide, and invited customers to come inside.

This is the Chemali family’s second DC market selling Lebanese, Turkish and Greek deli items and groceries. The first Shemali’s, at 3301 New Mexico Avenue, also has a cafe.

When we checked in last August (at the urging of several eager wanna-be customers), delays in getting permit approvals were holding up the Van Ness location’s opening.

Elias Chemali gave Van Ness Main Street a heads up that this would be the opening week, but kept the exact date quiet. This allowed some delighted neighbors to make the discovery.

Today’s the day! Shemali’s is now open on Connecticut Avenue in #VanNess (they’re at the corner of Connecticut and Albemarle).

Shemali’s Market Van Ness is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

So excited when we walked by this morning and saw they were open. We look forward to what looks like a great addition to the neighborhood.
