Updated: On May 6 and 7, celebrate Van Ness Main Street’s accomplishments, and go on world tour

May 2, 2022

The Van Ness Main Street spring pop-up market has been moved to its May 14th rain date.

At Van Ness Main Street’s annual meeting a year ago, UDC’s president – without naming names – teased the pending arrival of MOM’s Organic Market. And we learned how much the community stepped up to support this organization as it stepped up support of the small businesses of Van Ness and Forest Hills.

It’s been another busy year since, and you can hear all about past, present and future events at the Van Ness Main Street annual meeting this Friday, May 6th from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. The meeting will be held at the UDC amphitheater across from the tennis courts. It’s accessible from Windom Place and Yuma Street. (In the event of rain, the meeting will be held instead at the VNMS office at 4340 Connnecticut Avenue.)

Van Ness Main Street’s work continues the following week with its first-ever spring pop-up market. The vendors will be setting up shop outside 4340 Connecticut on Saturday, May 14th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On Saturday, May 7th from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the Around the World Embassy Tour from Cultural Tourism DC returns live and in person this year.

Participating embassies include three in the International Chancery Center:

Egypt: 3521 International Court
Ethiopia: 3506 International Drive
Pakistan: 3517 International Court

And three embassies are hosting events at the UDC Student Center (4200 Connecticut): The Gambia, Libya and Uganda. An information booth at the student center will be selling event passports that you can get stamped at each embassy you visit.

Visiting is free, though there might be a charge for any food and drink on offer. And be prepared to wear a mask and present photo ID and proof you’ve been vaccinated against Covid-19.

Forest Hills Connection is a program of Van Ness Main Street.
