OP wants our comments on its Van Ness Commercial District Action Strategy

November 16, 2015 by FHC

One year ago, the District’s Office of Planning began collecting public feedback on an action plan for creating “a more vibrant and lively” Van Ness.

Well, here it is.

If you stopped by any of OP’s office hours in the neighborhood last year, or participated in either of the two informational and planning sessions, you helped shape OP’s action plan. It lays out the following vision for the commercial area between Van Ness and Albemarle Streets:

  • The Van Ness Commercial District will be defined by attractive, activated and landscaped streets with spaces for retail, interaction and gathering for residents, students and workers.
  • The Van Ness Commercial District will be reinvented with a new identity and brand through management, repositioned retail spaces, and catalytic events.
  • Make Van Ness a precedent example for comprehensive sustainability.
  • Set strategies will foster an environment conducive to new development that complements a vibrant Commercial District.
  •
The next step is a 30-day comment period that began with the release of the plan last week. All comments and feedback must be submitted via e-mail to the Ward 3 Neighborhood Planner, Ryan Hand at ryan.hand@dc.gov by 5 p.m. Monday, December 14th.
