A towering oak tree fell across six lanes of Connecticut Avenue during Thursday afternoon rush hour.

Two vehicles traveling northbound were heavily damaged. The two occupants made it out and seemed to be okay, according to witnesses and reports. DC Fire and EMS says one was treated at the scene.
The tree fell shortly before 5 p.m. Witnesses tell NBC4 that bystanders ran to help the driver of the black Tesla out of the vehicle. (The news segment in the video below starts at 2:30.)
And one witness said the woman driving the white vehicle got herself out of her car, which then continued moving until it rolled up the curb just past Chesapeake.
DC Fire and EMS also reported a tree down on unoccupied vehicles on the 3200 block of Ellicott Street. 7News found two trees down, and two crushed cars.

A shame! Glad everyone is okay, but that was big shade tree. Wont see one that big again in our lifetime. And more often then not we shy away from replanting because just want to avoid the hassle of trees in general.
