“This is what a 3 hours after a 2-3 inch intense rain looks like for Rock Creek.”
You can see Peirce Mill in the upper left corner of the photo above, provided by Marchant Wentworth. He took these photos after the rainstorm last Thursday night and early Friday morning, and provided the description:
“Interestingly enough, not much flow from Piney Branch after this morning’s storm, indicating quick flow-through by the time we got there at around 8:30 a.m. But Rock Creek was roaring as the pictures above attest. Shots are adjacent to the Peirce Mill dam. Joyce Road stream gauge has it at around 2,000 cubic feet a second. A normal flow would be around 200.”
This storm arrived only about two weeks after a torrential rain that washed away parts of the trail by Peirce Mill.
