Photos: Some of the neighborhood damage from the June 19 storm

Thursday night’s storm packed a punch.

High winds and heavy rain brought down branches, trees, and power lines across the region.

Our neighborhood was similarly impacted. Politics and Prose lost power for a time. Did you?

Our Conn Ave location is closed due to the power outage. We hope everyone is safe and curled up with a good book!

During a Friday morning walk to survey the local damage, I saw that DC Fire and EMS came out to Brandywine Street near Linnean to clear a branch caught in communication lines. A call to 911 brought them out due to fears a Pepco line had been hit.

A backyard tree on Chesapeake Street toppled onto a neighbor’s house.

And, walking farther north, I saw a tree down on Broad Branch Road near Livingston Street.

This slug was also out for a stroll.

Let’s hope the creature found a relatively cool place to shelter, because we’re now trapped under a heat dome, bringing potentially record-breaking 100-degree temperatures to our region.
