What a winter wonderland! At least, for those freed from school or work obligations. I saw many neighbors and kids getting out to enjoy the snow days, and several at some of our favorite neighborhood spots for snow play.
Carnegie Science at the corner of Broad Branch Road and Linnean Avenue provides a popular sledding hill.
Directly across the street is a trail that cross country skiers blazed along the daylighted Broad Branch Stream.
Follow the creek to see the interplay of snow, ice and water. If you brought snacks, you can walk across a wooden bridge and take a seat at a picnic table.
Another creek-side trail follows the nearby Linnean Stream. Here, again, are beautiful snow formations and iced-in ponds where the frogs hang out in the spring. Young imaginations can run wild here.
Sometimes the journey is part of the fun, especially if you get to glide along on a sled pulled by your favorite grownups.
For the kids who want to have more outside play time, hoof it to Chesapeake Street and the Forest Hills Playground. The street and sidewalk has been cleared, as has the walkway through the park.
And anyone can hang out on the ballfield bleachers, basking in the sun.
