Potbelly building buyer wins design award

October 12, 2015 by FHC

It could be a while before we learn what Roadside Development has in mind for its latest purchase: the property that currently houses Potbelly and Wells Fargo. What we do know is the developer has won an international award for a project in Shaw that encompasses two blocks and an historic market.

Giant supermarket moved into this historic building at City Market at O.

City Market at O was one of ten projects selected for one of the 2015 Urban Land Institute Global Awards for Excellence. The winners this year, says ULI, “demonstrate high-quality and innovative design, sensitivity to the built environment, and represent of how thoughtful design influences a community’s economic vitality and health.” From the press release:

City Market at O is a one million square foot, urban infill project in the DC historic Shaw neighborhood. The two block project features nearly 90,000 SF of retail, 550 luxury rental apartments, 90 affordable senior rental units, a 182-room Cambria Suites Hotel, and a 500-car parking garage. The historic O Street Market at 7th and O streets NW is the cornerstone of this project and was restored into a state-of-the-art 78,000 square foot Giant Food Store. Other retail includes Starbucks, Dolci Gelati, Convivial, and Bacaro wine bar.
