The closure of the Connecticut Avenue sidewalk outside the Van Ness Square demolition site has already had a big impact on Van Ness, especially pedestrians. Neither DDOT, Saul Centers, nor Clark Construction were prepared for the impact of the disruption, but they have tried their best to deal with pedestrian safety issues with assistance of flagmen and MPD.
There is more yet to be done and a chance for the public to weigh in at a public meeting next Wednesday. Come to learn DDOT’s pedestrian and traffic control plans, and response to safety requests such as a covered walkway and pedestrian signals at each end of the construction site to allow for safer crossings. The District Department of Transportation (DDOT), ANC Commissioner Sally Gresham, and the developer of a project at 4455 Connecticut Ave NW (the former Van Ness Square site) invite the public to attend a meeting to discuss the current phase of construction, and the related traffic control plan, for a project at the Park Van Ness site. In addition, there will be a general discussion about future construction phases and timelines for the project. Following this presentation, there will be a question and answer period.
