The ground lease for the former Intelsat headquarters-turned-former Whittle School campus went up for sale last spring. And our Ward 3 Council member is saying, not for the first time, that the District should buy it.
But now, Matt Frumin has a plan to pay for it.
In an op-ed published Tuesday in The DC Line, Frumin makes the case for moving the just-opened MacArthur High School from its current location in the Palisades to 4000 Connecticut Avenue, which underwent a $187 million renovation and modernization for Whittle’s K-12 school in 2020.
Where would the money come from? Selling the MacArthur building to The Lab School, which “indicated it is an idea worth exploring,” Frumin writes. He says additional monies would be freed up if the District could avoid the second phase of the MacArthur High renovation.
Read Frumin’s op-ed for more on why he believes the site is ideal for a high school and multiple additional uses, such as early childhood education, a senior wellness center and new UDC programs.
