A reader sends these photos of a vehicle crash at Connecticut Avenue and Albemarle Street, which happened at around 7:20 this morning:
“Two-car crash forced one car completely over curb up onto sidewalk, completely blocking sidewalk for pedestrians southbound on Connecticut on east side of Connecticut.”
The SUV also blocked one lane of northbound traffic on Connecticut and westbound traffic on Albemarle.

I saw the crash scene at 7:30 this morning and thankfully, saw no sign that anyone on foot or in these vehicles was visibly hurt. MPD and DC Fire and EMS Twitter feeds don’t mention any injuries, or even the traffic disruption.
The rain-slicked road could have been a factor. Speed could have been a factor. In any case, drive with care when it rains – and in general. The speed limit is 30 mph on this stretch of Connecticut Avenue. No one should be going any faster than that. – Tracy Johnke

They finally towed the SUV about 9 am. I spoke with MPD and there were no injuries, fortunately. But this intersection really is *another* accident waiting to happen. The drivers are speeding and wreckless. And what really boggles my mind is the risks taken by parents toting small children to the Montessori school. They run across the street on red lights, they weave in and out of gridlocked cars, and they are often ignoring the cross walk and closed sidewalk. How can we address these problems? This morning it really felt as though we need a crossing guard.

I appreciate these photos. This intersection is dangerous. In the morning, drivers are so intent on getting to work they ignore pedestrians and express frustration with those of us who remain in the crosswalks all the way across. At night it’s the same with commuters speeding north. Who is more important? Residents of van ness who pay rent or mortgages and taxes to live here or the commuters who speed through our neighborhood? Put crossing guards at this intersection during rush hour.

With the sidewalk closed on the east side of Connecticut Avenue I am forced to cross at the dangerous intersection with Albemarle Street. In the past I have been yelled at by a man in a cab for crossing on foot in the crosswalk, had cars speed by without slowing down when I am crossing at the corner. At rush hour Connecticut Avenue is VERY dangerous with no speed limit observed. We should have speed cameras in place in an effort to slow things down.
