Update: Signs noting the detour and closed section of Broad Branch Road were posted at the intersection a few hours after we noticed the issue.
Have you seen any other signs alerting motorists to the Broad Branch Road closure?
Original piece here:
The road closures for the next phases of the Beach Drive reconstruction project have been well-publicized – except for the half-mile stretch of Broad Branch Road between Beach Drive and Brandywine Street.
On this, the first day of the closure, drivers turning right from Brandywine Street to go south on Broad Branch had no signs to warn them until they reached the closed section here, at the Soapstone Creek culvert.
Drivers have had to turn around here, by the guardhouse for the Italian ambassador’s residence.
The stretch remains open to bicyclists and pedestrians for recreational and commuting access to Ross Drive and Ridge Road – which are also closed to vehicle traffic because of the Beach Drive project.
Meanwhile, the first section of the Beach Drive rehabilitation is open. This is what’s visible south of the Tilden Street/Park Road intersection.

Thanks for sharing this information, Marlene. In NPS’s written explanation, they don’t mention closing this stretch of Broad Branch or Ridge Road.

What an absurd lack of signage! There obviously needs to be warning on Broad Branch placed north of Brandywine. For anyone heading down to Broad Branch using Brandywine, those warnings should be placed well in advance, e.g., at Brandywine and Linnean and also Albemarle and Linnean (for those who use 28th St). Similarly they should place one at Davenport and Linnean, so cars don’t go all the way down the hill only to have to come back up at Brandywine.
Thank you Marlene for this pointed reminder of the closure. I certainly needed it.

Wednesday (August 30) Broad Branch was closed at Grant Road. Perhaps this was temporary? I haven’t been back that way to check it out.
