Rock Creek Cleanup Coming Up

March 25, 2013 by FHC

Rock Creek Extreme CleanupForest Hills residents are fortunate to live next door to a beautiful island of nature in the middle of our city. And it could use our help.

The Rock Creek Conservancy is inviting us to help pick up trash in the park on Saturday, April 6th. Volunteers are leading cleanups throughout Rock Creek Park, including three locations in Forest Hills: Peirce Mill, Soapstone Valley and the Broad Branch tributary.

If you’d like to work on another section of the park, use the map below to find more cleanup crews to join. Young children are welcome at some cleanups, but not all. Check with each cleanup’s leader if you’re not sure.

From the Rock Creek Conservancy:

Mark your calendar for the largest cleanup of the year!

Each spring, Rock Creek Conservancy organizes and promotes the Rock Creek Extreme Cleanup with trash cleanups at over 50 locations along the 33-mile length of Rock Creek. Our goal is a total stream cleanup of Rock Creek and its tributaries, the parks connected to Rock Creek, and the neighborhoods near Rock Creek where trash originates. We work closely with the National Park Service and Montgomery County Parks to coordinate cleanups in both Washington, DC, and Montgomery County, MD.

This will be the fifth annual cleanup, and we need your help to make it the best ever. The Rock Creek Extreme Cleanup is part of the Alice Ferguson Foundation’s Potomac River Watershed Cleanup that takes place across four states and the District of Columbia. When we do our part for Rock Creek, we are helping to keep trash out of the Potomac River, the Chesapeake Bay, and our oceans.
