From David:
In 2013, DC Water dialogued with a group of us about sewers in Soapstone Valley. We used as our study text DC Water’s 2011 report prepared by a pair of engineering firms. DC Water gave me a hard copy then and a digital copy a few weeks ago. It is a rich, thoughtful document with data, context and analysis – paragraphs and photos, maps and tables. All in all, an excellent product. So it’s good news that [Tuesday] DC Water posted all of it online to give everyone ready access.
Here’s a roundup of news and opinion on the Soapstone sewer project. NPS is accepting public comments on the Soapstone Valley Park Sewer Rehabilitation Environment Assessment through this Friday, August 2nd.
Pat Kasdan says
Thanks for posting the 2011 DC Water report which states, “Sewer segments between manholes M-9768 to M-9765 were observed to be previously lined and are in need of no further improvements at this time (p. 2-13)….
“All segments have defects that need to be addressed by either pipe replacement or rehabilitation with the exception of the two sections previously rehabilitated (p. 2-14, Table 2-2).”
According to the 2019 Environmental Assessment these already relined sewer pipes lie in the area of greatest proposed tree removal, see Appendix B, Figure 5, Tree Impacts, Sheet 1 of 3.
Can DC Water be persuaded NOT to reline already relined sewer pipes, and thereby save some of the 370+ trees slated for destruction?
