Southbound Connecticut Ave. curb lane at Veazey closed for water line work – so pedestrians can use it

September 9, 2019 by FHC Leave a Comment

The water line work began Friday, September 6th.

DDOT recently told local leaders that WMATA would be performing emergency water work at the Van Ness Metro station and that the sidewalk south of Veazey Terrace would be closed. A map accompanying the advisory showed no accommodations for pedestrians heading to the Metro elevator from the north.

The advisory also stated that the southbound Connecticut Avenue curb lane would also be closed, but it wasn’t clear whether that was during the work hours only, or throughout the project. As it turns out, a portion of the travel lane is closed to accommodate people on foot, in wheelchairs, and pushing strollers.

We’ve asked the agencies for more information about the work and timeline, but as we understand it, the project could take as long as two weeks.
