Don’t be surprised if a new newspaper shows up on your front doorstep, front yard or building lobby today.
It’s called The Northwest Courier. It quietly launched online at NWC.news in late April, And its first print edition is being delivered to households in Northwest DC today.
The Courier covers a lot of the same nuts-and-bolts local news that was the Northwest Current’s specialty: local government, business and entertainment happenings, ANC meetings, high school sports. The similarity to Current Newspapers is no accident. The DC Line reports the Courier’s founders are Current alumni Brendan Martin and Kaleel Weatherly. (DC Line was itself founded by Chris Kain, a longtime Current managing editor.)
Current Newspapers published its last newspaper on May 8th and closed the business after 52 years.
