The shop-local guide to Thanksgiving meal prep and dining in Van Ness and Forest Hills

November 15, 2019 by FHC Leave a Comment

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and local businesses are standing by to help you prepare the meal… or enjoy it!

Find the best wine to pair with your holiday meals. Calvert Woodley (4339 Connecticut) has several in-store wine tastings on its events calendar.

Van Ness Main Street reminds us the UDC Van Ness farmers market (4340 Connecticut Avenue NW) has two Saturdays left in the season. On Saturday, November 16th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Chef Jonathan Bardzik will be cooking side dishes with ingredients you can buy on the spot: sautéed tatsoi, daikon and GoldRush apple slaw, mashed rutabaga and potatoes with goat cheese, and molasses and ginger-glazed pumpkin/squash.

Bread Furst (4434 Connecticut) is offering pies and a number of side dishes. Place your preorders here by 5 p.m. on November 23rd.

Ready to talk turkey? Little Red Fox (5035 Connecticut) is accepting your Thanksgiving turkey and pie preorders through November 21st.

Uptown Market (4465 Connecticut) is taking turkey and catering orders in person or via this web form until November 28th. And between 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, November 16th and 23rd, customers can sample its Thanksgiving catering menu. Turkeys and Thanksgiving sides will also be in stock for purchase after November 28th.

And, you can skip the cooking and the cleanup by enjoying Thanksgiving specials at Sfoglina (4445 Connecticut). As we write this, it looks like the restaurant is nearly fully booked for Thanksgiving Day. But, there’s always time to plan for next year!

What did we miss? Comment below with your favorite local spots to prepare for or enjoy a Thanksgiving feast.
