Connecticut Avenue’s “Flower Lady,” Kathy Sykes, is a UDC-trained Master Gardener and a driving force behind Van Main Street’s efforts to beautify the tree boxes between Van Ness Street and Nebraska Avenue. (And it’s not too late to join the pollinator-friendly planting efforts or donate to the cause!)
Sykes has a wealth of knowledge about the plants, and she will be giving 75-minute walking tours of the Connecticut Avenue street gardens on Sunday, April 25th and Monday, April 26th. The proceeds from each will benefit Van Ness Main Street.
The Sunday afternoon tour is for kids and their grownups. The Monday evening tour is for ages 16 and up. On both walks, you’ll learn the names and unique features of some of our native and perennial plants. You will also learn about “keystone plants” that provide tremendous benefits to our environment. You can easily translate this knowledge to your home garden or balcony plantings.
