UDC’s work on the new student center is temporarily disrupting the flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic on Van Ness Street just west of Connecticut Avenue.
This is nothing like the 6-month sidewalk closure at the Van Ness Square demolition site. UDC’s underground utility work was to start on January 15th and is scheduled to continue until the 27th.
We’d like UDC to devote more attention to this sidewalk for another reason: Snow. UDC did not clear it after the last snowfall.
Here’s UDC’s notice to the community:
Subject: NEW STUDENT CENTER CONSTRUCTION NOTICE
Date: January 15, 2014
Beginning 1/15/2014 through 1/27/2014 underground utility work may temporarily disrupt the normal flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic along the north side of Van Ness Street for first 50 feet west of Connecticut Avenue. As work progresses, pedestrians should use the temporary accessible pedestrian ramp or when directed, the sidewalk on the other side of Van Ness Street.
The westbound lane of Van Ness will remain open; flagmen will be posted when necessary.
