3/25/2016 Update: The fitness center is now scheduled to open on June 1st.
In January, UDC welcomed the community to the grand opening of its new student center. In March, UDC will welcome the community to use the new fitness center located inside.
The fitness center will open on Tuesday, March 1st, and we are invited to join. This happy news was provided by Cory Robinson, the director of the fitness center whose promising vision should meet a vast variety of needs.
Exercise equipment, large and small, is already in place. Yoga, pilates, Zumba, rowing, spinning and other classes will be held in the light and airy space.
The fitness center will become a hub for all kinds of health-related activities, including organized walks on behalf of various causes, free health assessments, and advice on using cardio equipment.
While hours are not fully set yet, the center will probably be open from 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Located right by the Van Ness Metro station, it’ll be easy to access before or after work. Additionally UDC has a parking lot, and there will be bike racks.
Robinson says membership rates will be very competitive with other fitness centers near or on Connecticut Avenue. On March 1st or sooner, membership application forms will be at UDC.edu. Members will get a community card that also gives them access to UDC’s new indoor pool and use of the beautiful new locker rooms.
Robinson, whose background is in health and fitness at the corporate and government level, says his intention is to keep everything in top shape, including all equipment and locker rooms. In keeping with this goal, towels will be provided, and lockers will only be for use during fitness activities.
