We knew it as Perkins, for the food service company running the joint. But the UDC eatery temporarily making its home at 4250 Connecticut Avenue is called Firebird Millennium Café. And it is now serving students, staff and the public.

The press release below reveals the weekday business hours. Plans for some expanded hours are in the works. And a new chef has joined the team. UDC expects Firebird Millennium Café will move to a permanent location in the Student Center this fall.

“Firebird” Millennium Café to open at the University of the District of Columbia

WASHINGTON (December 17, 2019) – Beginning on January 2, 2020, Perkins Management Services will relocate UDC’s campus food service operations to the new “Firebird” Millennium Café, located at 4250 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC 20008, formerly the location of the Epicurean and Company restaurant. Operating hours will initially be from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 am – 2:00 pm on Fridays, with plans to expand to accommodate evening activities, and provide special discounts to the UDC community.

Perkins Management Services Company is excited about the opportunity to transition the dining services program at the University of the District of Columbia to greater heights! Words cannot adequately express how delighted we are to create an even better facility to deliver the sustained levels of quality expected by the UDC community. Our partnership with the University is important to us, and though we have weathered many storms, we nevertheless look forward to working together in mutually beneficial ways in the long term.

The building at 4250 provides us with adequate kitchen space to offer a full range of options, and improve catering for the UDC community. The scope and breadth of our service offerings will be displayed daily at the new “Firebird” Millennium Cafe.

We are delighted also to announce that renowned Certified Executive Chef Jacqueline Craig, seen on local television and recently featured in Food Management magazine as “Chefs to Watch,” has joined Perkins Management Services as Director of Culinary Development. Chef Jackie, as she is affectionately known, is the former Executive Chef at Howard University. She brings to us over 30 years of culinary experience, and we are delighted to have Chef Jackie directing culinary vision at UDC.

Please join us for special giveaways and promotions during the week beginning January 6, 2020, to celebrate the grand opening of the “Firebird” Millennium Café.
