Van Ness and Forest Hills Covid-19 business directory

March 17, 2020 by FHC 9 Comments

This directory has moved. Here’s where we’re now keeping track (and trying hard to keep things up to date).

In partnership with Van Ness Main Street, we are continually updating this directory of local stores, restaurants and institutions as they update their operational plans. VNMS is also keeping a list.

Don’t see your business below? (No storefront? No problem.) Or have an update to share? Please comment below or email us at info@foresthillsconnection.com. You can also support the businesses directly with a tax-deductible donation to the VNMS Growth Fund. VNMS is providing thousands of dollars in grants to small businesses within its boundaries.

More about Van Ness Main Street’s efforts: Gloria Garcia, the executive director, told us on March 16th:

VNMS along with the other 23 main streets in DC are providing emergency operating subgrants in lieu of our normal subgrants for improvements that we do each year. We have been empowered by [the Department of Small and Local Business Development] to look at our budgets and beef up our subgrant funding. A large category is our events line items where we aren’t moving forward with these so those funds are available for subgrants. I would ask all business owners to email at info@vannessmainstreet.org. Subgrants start at $1,000 and capped at $5,000. We are evaluating case-by-case, first come, first serve and our board is approving on a rolling basis. We did a first round of disbursements totaling more than $17,000 [Monday] morning.

On fundraising, people can support the businesses directly but if they want a tax deduction, we are a 501(c)3 so can take donations for the VNMS Growth Fund.

Forest Hills Connection is produced by volunteers, and supported by you. We appreciate your support – financial and otherwise. Here’s how to donate.

I saw a lady leaving the Uptown Market today with her dozen eggs tucked under her arm. Since the Giant was out of eggs, I pulled over and got not only eggs, but also a number of other delicious looking items. What an impressive array of fresh foods!

Do you know which local businesses are selling gift certificates so that we can support them during this time? For example, I’d be interested in purchasing a gift certificate to Nail Avenue.

Almost every business will sell you a gift card or gift certificate. Just call and ask for details. My hope is that someone at Nail Avenue will be there to answer the phone, now that they have been ordered to close.

I am not sure where the list of now-open Van Ness businesses came from, but one other business that is open is Ernesto’s Hair Styling, 4301 Conn. Ave. ( next to the Giant) who is also now open by appointment. .
