One of the successes VNMS will be celebrating is its annual fundraiser on June 23, which raised more than $7,500.
Neighborhood turnout was strong, with 90 attendees who were not daunted by intermittent showers.
They were rewarded with wine beer, cheese, patês and fruit supplied by Calvert Woodley, a major sponsor of the event.
Bread from Bread Furst provided a perfect complement to the fare. Market Day Flowers added splashes of color with flower arrangements, which were auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Park Van Ness provided its party room for the event, which opened to the terrace. There, the splashes of color came from a rainbow after a light drizzle early in the evening.
Inside, UDC professors and jazz musicians performed for the crowd: Pete Muldoon on guitar and DeAndre Shaifer on trumpet.
Ibhana, the new pop-up boutique at 4340 Connecticut, donated a dress for the auction. Attendees also bid on a box of coupons and goodies from various businesses at Van Ness.
Van Ness Main Street Executive Director Theresa Cameron was thrilled by the community support.
“Without local neighborhood support Van Ness Main Street could not exist even with funding from Department of Local and Small Business Development,” Cameron said. “So this fundraiser was very important. Just as important was the work of our neighborhood volunteers who pulled this event together. Many thanks to them.”
