Volunteer to help with tax prep, and help low-income and elderly neighbors

October 8, 2021 by FHC Leave a Comment

There are in-person and virtual volunteer opportunities. (AARP photo)

Gay Sills, a Chevy Chase neighbor who prepares taxes for low-income and elderly DC residents through the AARP Tax Aide program, is recruiting volunteers for the 2021 tax season.

Would you like to make a difference in the lives of people right in your own community? As an AARP Foundation Tax Aide volunteer, you can help people who can’t afford to pay for professional tax preparation – and often miss out on much-needed tax breaks, deductions, and refunds. You can help put money back in their pockets.

You don’t have to be a tax pro to volunteer with us – there are many ways to get involved and connect with people in your community. Whatever your skill set, there’s a role for you!

The AARP Tax Aide program operated on a virtual basis last season because of Covid-19. This year our planning includes volunteer opportunities working from home as well as volunteer opportunities at our tax return preparation sites.

Please let us know ASAP if you would like to join our team of volunteers in time for next season in order to help people in your own community. We expect to train new volunteers in January 2022, prior to the start of the 2022 filing season. If you have further questions, please email AARP DC Tax Aide at DCTaxAide@gmail.com or call 202-642-9037.

Forest Hills Connection is produced by volunteers, and supported by you. We appreciate your support – financial and otherwise. Here’s how to donate.
