DC Water has started a new section of its extensive water main replacement project in Forest Hills, and for those who use Brandywine Street to get to Broad Branch Road and vice versa, it might mean finding an alternate route for the next two weeks, or being ready to take it extra slow.
Starting today, the work crew is cutting into the roadway along 28th Street and Brandywine in preparation for the installation of the new eight-inch mains. The work may require lane closures on Brandywine and is scheduled through Friday, November 26th, with the 25th a day off for Thanksgiving.
DC Water is replacing cast iron water main pipes and fire hydrants. The project started nearly a year ago and is scheduled for completion in March. Here is a project overview.
Installation is followed by testing, and tying the new main to the lines supplying residents’ homes. The work crew also restores the street surface and lane markings.
