Watch out for detours and delays on Broad Branch Road due to emergency road work

If Broad Branch Road is a regular part of your travels, be aware that DDOT is doing emergency road work on Broad Branch at the Soapstone culvert north of the road’s intersection with Beach Drive.

The work was to begin Friday, January 11th and is scheduled to continue through Monday, January 28th, weather permitting. A detour is in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on work days.

Broad Branch Road is in need of extensive rebuilding. DDOT has been planning an overhaul of the 1.7-mile stretch of Broad Branch Road between Linnean Avenue and Beach Drive since 2011.

The deterioration accelerated during the summer deluges. Record rainfall raised Broad Branch Stream to flood levels a number of times. The result: more stream-side degradation of the roadbed. Here’s what it looked like in October:
