The west entrance at Van Ness Metro, set to close today for a three-year escalator replacement project, was still open as of 9 a.m. Will it close later today?
A DDOT representative said last Thursday that the agency would suspend WMATA’s public space permits until further notice, which would prevent Metro’s contractor from bringing in trucks and equipment until it gets the all-clear.
What do you see at the Van Ness Metro today? Fill us in below.

After ANC3F’s community meeting, WMATA changed signage starting date from May 4 to early May.

I was mistaken. WMATA has not changed signage: All the signs at the lower, turnstile level continue to read “May 4”. The sign at the upper level (the cross way connecting two sides of Connecticut) reads “early May” as it did a week ago.
David Jonas Bardin says
As of 11 am today, WMATA’s attendant by the turnstiles says the west side entrance will be closed tonight. There are no WMATA or DDOT signs at the sidewalk level (on either side of Connecticut). That suggests DDOT has not signed off on a public space permit which WMATA will need to park a flatbed truck outside the west entrance (while removing and delivering materials the the “chute’). However, WMATA does not need DDOT permission to “lock its own entrance off” from the inside.

West entrance is still open and available for “ingress” as of Tuesday morning’s rush hour, May 5.
