The Beacon, the financially independent student newspaper at Wilson High School funded by subscribers, is a paper that can give a principal heartburn, given some of the articles that have been written over the years.
However, this article, about a student raising money for Syrian refugees, would make any educator proud. It reflects Wilson students’ activism and international enrollment.
Meet Gena Basha, a Wilson senior:
When she learned about how the war had affected her family members, Basha knew it wasn’t enough to read newspaper articles about it. This summer, she took the next step: raising over $3,000 for an organization called Save the Children that provides support for children in disaster-stricken areas like Syria.
