Wilson Student Raising Money For Syrian Kids

October 22, 2013

by Marlene Berlin

The Beacon, the financially independent student newspaper at Wilson High School funded by subscribers, is a paper that can give a principal heartburn, given some of the articles that have been written over the years.

However, this article, about a student raising money for Syrian refugees, would make any educator proud. It reflects Wilson students’ activism and international enrollment.

When she learned about how the war had affected her family members, Basha knew it wasn’t enough to read newspaper articles about it. This summer, she took the next step: raising over $3,000 for an organization called Save the Children that provides support for children in disaster-stricken areas like Syria.
