For many years, Forest Hills neighbor David Cohen has contributed photo essays about birds and other wildlife to Forest Hills Connection. In recent years, posters featuring his photos have helped people identify wild creatures they might see in Linnean Park and other parts of Rock Creek Park.
In August, we’re invited to visit the Patuxent Research Refuge in Laurel, Maryland to see more of his work on display. The Hollingsworth Art Gallery at the National Wildlife Visitors Center is hosting a show of his photo prints, called “Birds, Bees, Butterflies, and Patuxent: Photographs by David Jonathan Cohen.”
The show is a fundraiser for the non-profit Friends of Patuxent Research Refuge. The full price of any photo you buy will go to the Friends for its mission of supporting research, wildlife conservation, and education at Patuxent.
The exhibit is open Tuesdays through Saturdays throughout the month of August, and on Saturday, August 10th from 2 to 4 p.m., there will be a reception. It will include light refreshments and at 2:30 p.m., a brief talk by Cohen with an opportunity for questions.
We recommend making a day of it – exploring the refuge and perhaps spotting some of the birds and other wildlife that have inspired David Cohen to create.
