Neighbor Kids, All Grown Up: Silas Riener

Dancer Silas Riener in "NOX"

Silas Riener would open our freezer, put his finger on his chin and rock his head from side to side in making the very important decision of what to plop into the microwave and join my older daughter in a snack after their school day at Wilson. In fact, I would find Silas in that pose so often in the late afternoon, that I started putting his likes on my weekly grocery list.

Now Silas is striking a very different pose. After dancing with Merce Cunningham for four years, he is collaborating with fellow company dancer Rashaun Mitchell in the upcoming New York premiere of Nox.

The performance incorporates the works of poet Anne Carson, and runs May 8-10 at New York’s Danspace.

The New York Times gives the performance a glowing review.
