Artist Annette Polan is giving a gallery talk at the Hirshhorn Museum this Friday, March 3rd at 12:30 p.m. She deliberately does not mention the four artists whose work she will discuss.
“I don’t want anyone to come prepared. It is all about using your eyes to see details and remaining flexible to add new ideas to preconceived notions.”
If interested, meet at the Hirshhorn information desk (7th Street and Independence Avenue SW) at the appointed time.
We profiled Polan in 2014, and she participated in our first Forest Hills Art Walk.
Paul Pearlstein is playing his mandolin and guitar in a free concert with The Mandoleers on Sunday, March 12th at 2 p.m. at the Sherwood Regional Library in Alexandria, Virginia (2501 Sherwood Hall Lane, 703-765-3645). Paul has a long history with the group:
“I have been playing mandolin and guitar with the group since 1967 after I got out of the Army and returned from Paris. The group is the oldest continuously performing mandolin orchestra in the USA. It originated in Takoma Park, and was previously known as the The Takoma Mandoleers. They rehearse every Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Clarendon Methodist church.”
We last heard from Paul when he reviewed Margery Elfin’s book A Nation on Trial: France and the Legacy of the Dreyfus Affair, and before that, when he told us about rowing the Anacostia.
We do enjoy hearing about what our neighbors are up to. Please let us know!
