Yesterday, I told you what I liked most about Forest Hills Connection in 2014. Here’s what a few of our contributors enjoyed the most. – Tracy Johnke
Marjorie Rachlin: My favorite stories were the ones about bringing the stream out of the ground to flow into Broad Branch – and the one about the Halloween party at the new playground, which had wonderful photos.
Picture of the Year is ANC Commissioner Sally Gresham as the wicked witch, at that party.
Virginia Adams Marentette: I appreciated the FHC providing a forum for us to learn about our local ANC candidates. ANCs play a big role in shaping our neighborhood, but it’s virtually impossible to learn about the candidates. I am thankful to the FHC for allowing us to make informed choices in the voting booth.
My other favorite is: The Witchy Witch performing at the Friends of Forest Hills Playground Annual Halloween Party.
I love this photograph because it shows the huge crowd that came out to celebrate the grand opening of the park after literally years of work to make it happen. Our community was quite vocal about the desire for a community circle performance space, but the powers that be didn’t always seem to understand our vision. It was very gratifying to stand there with the local officials, point to the sea of smiling faces and say, “Now do you see what we meant?” We can’t wait to host more performances in the spring once it warms up!
Denise Warner: We love Marge Elfin’s pet interviews. (And we need more! Know any pets that deserve a profile? Here’s our tipline.)
Mary Beth Ray: Hard to pick a favorite story because I enjoy or learn from them all! But it’s hard to imagine what we did before the Forest Hills Connection. Thank you Marlene and Tracy, and the entire team of writers, photographers and interviewees for shining a light on just how beautiful and fascinating our Forest Hills community is!
