Volunteer at Soapstone, Broad Branch, Peirce Mill during MLK Rock Creek cleanup

January 9, 2017 by FHC

The Soapstone cleanup volunteers will meet Jan. 16 where the Windom parklet joins Soapstone Valley. Here, AU’s Andrew Huff tackles the trash during an American University Earth Day cleanup in April 2016.

Join your neighbors and help clean up Rock Creek Park this weekend!

As part of the celebration to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior, January 14 and 16 will be the MLK Weekend of Service in Rock Creek Park. This annual event sponsored by the Rock Creek Conservancy includes cutting away invasive vines and removing trash from the park.

This year, ANC 3F’s Soapstone and Melvin Hazen Parks & Trails Committee is participating with the Conservancy in a trash cleanup at Soapstone Park. This event will be held on Monday, January 16, from 10 a.m. to noon, meeting at the Windom Place entrance to Soapstone a block east of Connecticut Avenue.

Similar projects are available that weekend in our neighborhood at Broad Branch (Saturday) and Peirce Mill (Monday). Participants of all ages are welcome. Details and registration for this event are available at rockcreekconservancy.org. Or, you may get in touch with ANC Soapstone Committee project coordinator Bill Sittig at [email protected].
