You’re invited: RiverSmart garden tours in Forest Hills on April 2

March 20, 2017

Typical RiverSmart Homes rain gardens are between 50 to 75 square feet, contain a mix of perennials and shrubs, and collect water during rain events. (DOEE photo)

Visit local homes that have installed RiverSmart Homes’ subsidized landscape features, such as trees, rain gardens, bayscaping, rain barrels, and permeable pavers! All of these features help reduce harmful stormwater runoff into local streams and rivers and add low maintenance beauty to the garden.

RiverSmart Homes rain barrels hold 130 gallons of stormwater. (DOEE photo)

The Garden Party will start promptly at 2 p.m. with refreshments and a short presentation on the RiverSmart Homes program by DC Department of Energy and Environment staff. Participants will then get a map and information for a self-guided tour of five additional homes in the Forest Hills neighborhood. (Read more about the benefits and uses of RiverSmart grants.)

There will also be a raffle for a for a rain garden installation!

Location: Meet at the first house on the Garden Party & Tour, 5191 Linnean Terrace NW.

Time: Please plan to arrive by 2 p.m. The RiverSmart Home presentation will start promptly at 2:15. Participants will then be able to visit additional homes from 2:45-4:00.

Wear comfortable walking shoes!
