In March, we published a version of the article below, announcing the vacant seat on ANC 3F. No one declared their candidacy prior to the April 8th deadline, so the DC Board of Elections has recertified the vacancy, resetting the clock on the process.
What that means: If you are a registered voter and reside within ANC 3F05’s boundaries, you are once again eligible to run for the seat. And, if two or more candidates turn in nominating petitions, voters within 3F05 will be asked to vote in a special election.
Candidates can now pick up nominating petitions (by email, mail or in person) at the DC Board of Elections and collect signatures of 3F05 voters. The deadline to turn them in (by the same means) is 4:45 p.m. on Monday, May 13th.
If all the signatures check out, and if you’re the only candidate who filed a petition, you will automatically become the next 3F05 commissioner. If there is more than one candidate, ANC 3F and the Office of the ANC will hold a special election.
Here’s a two-page PDF with everything you need to know about running for mid-term vacancies.
The winning candidate will serve the remainder of the 2023-2024 term. And it won’t be long before everyone interested in serving on an ANC will be invited to go through a similar petition process. We’ll be electing candidates to new two-year terms on Election Day.
