More neighborhood business news has landed on our plate since our February 9th update, so we’re offering you another serving.

The Dog Haus Biergarten announces its Van Ness opening date: Presidents Day, and the February 18th grand opening celebration at 4340 Connecticut Avenue will be an all-day affair, with specials starting with its 8 a.m. opening, and ending at the 9 p.m. closing time.

From Dog Haus Van Ness:

This isn’t just another restaurant opening; it’s the debut of a true neighborhood gathering place with a full bar program, a dynamic sports viewing environment, and a menu built around signature Creekstone Farms 100% Black Angus beef burgers, all-beef hot dogs, and handcrafted sausages served on grilled King’s Hawaiian rolls.

The offerings vary somewhat by location, but the chain’s breakfast burritos will also be on the menu.

In addition: “Dog Haus Biergarten Van Ness will also participate in the brand’s Dine Out fundraising program, allowing local nonprofits, schools, and community organizations to host events where 20% of sales are donated directly back to the participating group.”

Celebrating local business anniversaries: Tikka (4221B Connecticut) is one year old this month. Its specialties are North Indian and Nepali food. The Call Your Mother deli at 5035 Connecticut opened in February 2023.

In our archives search, we dug up a couple of other interesting anniversaries: The flagship Politics and Prose (5015 Connecticut) grew 30 percent larger in February 2018. The bookstore absorbed the former Regal Custom Cleaners storefront and 3,500 additional square feet for retail, storage and offices.

And in February 2015, someone crashed a car through a wall in the Giant Food parking garage. The store’s dairy section is on the other side. Reports said no one was seriously hurt.
