The latest on Mr. Green: At an August 5th special meeting, ANC 3F commissioners voted 4 to 2 to approve a settlement agreement they negotiated with the owner of Mr. Green, a medical cannabis retailer going through the ABCA licensing process. If the agreement is approved by the ABC board, it will be attached to the store’s license. Here’s more background on the business. We’ll have more to report on the settlement agreement at a later date.
Where to get your kicks: Chevy Chase’s Infinity Martial Arts is opening a second studio in Van Ness, at 4340 Connecticut Avenue. On August 8th, the day he got the keys to the space, Master Uriah Breunig posted this video on the taekwondo school’s Instagram account.

More UDC retail updates: 4340 Connecticut is a UDC property that’s home to the UDC David A. Clarke School of Law. Van Ness Main Street occupies UDC-donated ground ground floor retail space on the south end. With the addition of Infinity Martial Arts, UDC has secured leases for the three remaining storefronts.
At the August 8th UDC Community-Campus Task Force meeting, UDC Vice President of Facilities and Real Estate Management Javier Dussan confirmed the Infinity lease and said the school plans to open by September 1st. He also provided updates on other pending tenants at 4340 and 4250 Connecticut:
- MOM’s Organic Market (at 4250) is to open in the fall. Dussan said UDC is working with the business to complete everything necessary for that to happen.
- The Whale Tea (at 4340) has put up a sign, and has a construction permit. The boba tea shop’s plan is to complete construction in October and open soon after.
- Dog Haus (4340) is not as far along in the design process and is unlikely to open prior to spring 2025.
Dussan said the university-owned retail spaces are on the verge of being 100% leased, and UDC is in negotiations with prospective tenants for the last three retail spaces still available. One is in the Student Center. The second is on the north end of 4250 Connecticut, next door to Mom’s. The third space is the Van Ness Main Street office. (Forest Hills Connection is an editorially independent program of Van Ness Main Street.)
Dussan also clarified that the former Walgreens at 4225 Connecticut is needed, and in use, as a swing space during the campus’s many renovation projects, and is not in the retail mix.
Speaking of pending businesses: Work on restaurateur Ashok Bajaj’s incoming Rosedale continues at 4465 Connecticut Avenue. A new sign and awnings are up outside:
And the last time we got a peek inside (about a month ago), we saw the makings of an arch reminiscent of those in the concept’s concept drawings.

Summer Restaurant Week is under way. Rosemary Bistro Cafe (5510 Connecticut) and Sfoglina Pasta House (4445 Connecticut) are taking part, offering prix fixe lunch and dinner menus through Sunday, August 18th.
Baguette 101: Bread Furst founder Mark Furstenberg was on Fox5’s Good Day DC on July 10th to talk about the history of the baguette. He also dropped a Bread Furst fun fact: The bakery makes 600 to 800 baguettes every day.
Keeping it in the family at I’m Eddie Cano (5014 Connecticut):
And at sister restaurant Italian Bar, house-made limoncello and arancello.
