Bread Furst: Tuesday, May 6th. 7 a.m. Need we say more? The Washington Post said it quite well. And only Mark Furstenberg can make failing the initial health inspection sound like a wonderful thing.
Laliguras Bistro: Indian and Nepalese in Van Ness at 4221-B Connecticut Avenue. Its immediate predecessor was the 867 Cafe.
David Bardin, the master of our neighborhood’s restaurant list, noticed it was open yesterday and gathered these details:
Laliguras
Indian & Nepali Bistro
4221-B Connecticut Avenue NW
(202) 735-5097
Open every day
11:30 am – 2:30 pm Lunch
5 pm – 10 pm Dinner
The restaurant does not seem to have an online presence yet. But the search revealed something interesting. If this site is accurate, Dawa Tamang is the registered agent for Laliguras DC LLC. Dawa Tamang is also the name of the (former?) executive chef at Heritage India, who is also a native of Nepal. Coincidence?
Now we ask you to try it, and give us a report! (Seriously. Let us know if you’d like to write a review.)
Next door to Laliguras, something is now missing…
7-Eleven: This location, at 4221-A Connecticut Avenue, is now out. A sign in the window announced it would close May 1st. It did, after a little more than two years at that location.

So excited for Bread Furst! And welcome to the new Indian place– we’ll try it tonight! And 7-11 is gone…well, as a NY Times article put it so well, nothing says “nowhere” like a 7-11. This can only be good news for Van Ness. What’s next? Sweet Green maybe?

I was told of this restaurant bya friend who lives in Van Ness.
I am originally from Nepal and tempted to try.
Would you share your experience?
thanks

A neighbor tells me he was Customer #1 at LALIGURAS on Tuesday and he’s going back tonight for dinner.
