Little Red Fox is celebrating five years in Forest Hills

November 29, 2018

As of this week, Little Red Fox has been open for business at 5035 Connecticut Avenue for five years. The business has thrived in ways its owners, Matt and Jena Carr, never imagined.

When we opened Little Red Fox at the end of 2013, our goal was to bring a little piece of the Portland, Oregon food scene to our part of DC. We envisioned LRF to be a small neighborhood mom & pop shop with gourmet casual fare and a relaxed vibe that we would one day be running with our kids. Little Red Fox has boomed in a way we never expected; at opening we had 6 staff and one chef, we now have over 30 staff members and are still growing. The “Fox Universe” as we like to call it includes not only Little Red Fox, but also Fox Loves Taco in Brookland and will soon include our ice cream and cake shop just a few store fronts down. We also helped create (and now consult on) The Den café at Politics & Prose. In 2013 we could have never anticipated the reach Little Red Fox would have, and we’re constantly humbled & honored by the support and love we receive from the neighborhood, the DC community, and even folks across the country who follow us on social media and buy our products online.

The real thing, in 2017

Here’s how Little Red Fox is celebrating its fifth anniversary: On Friday, November 30th, it’s giving out free stickers (a sleepy fox, running fox, pointing fox, and a sitting fox). It’s offering a “5-Year Pie Latte” special, which is a latte with a mini funfetti buttermilk chess pie (while supplies last). And there’s new Little Red Fox merchandise: a sweatshirt printed in Takoma Park, DC with a design by Seattle artist Kyler Martz, and a Miir travel tumbler for hot and cold drinks. They’re available in the store and online.
