Meet your ANC candidate: Shirley Adelstein, 3F02

June 1, 2015

The DC Board of Elections starts accepting nominating petitions today for the open seat on ANC 3F. Here’s more information on single member district 3F02 and how to run.

One candidate has already declared. We’ll let her introduce herself:

Shirley Adelstein cropMy name is Shirley Adelstein, and I am a candidate for ANC single-member district 3F02 in the beautiful neighborhood of Forest Hills. I am committed to promoting the livability, affordability, and sustainability of our neighborhood. As a longtime district resident, federal employee, and graduate of a local university, I understand the importance of meeting the diverse needs of our residents.

Professionally, I am an analyst and researcher at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, where I help agencies promote positive organizational change. I am also an active member of numerous community, advocacy, and philanthropic organizations. I completed my M.P.P. and Ph.D. in Government at Georgetown University and received my B.A. in Social History from New York University. My husband Josh and I met as Senate interns eleven years ago, and we look forward to raising a family in this vibrant area.

I grew up in a family with a long tradition of civic and military service, and I believe strongly in the importance of being involved in my community. I am running to represent our ANC district because I love our neighborhood, and I am dedicated to making it a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for my family and yours. If elected, I promise to work tirelessly to be your voice in the DC government.

To ensure that our neighborhood remains a wonderful place to live, I will promote investments that improve the livability of our community, build strong relationships between residents and local businesses in our neighborhood, promote our neighborhood’s safety and security, and make sure that the voices of all residents are heard.

I’m very pleased to see Shirley run for this seat. I have known Shirley for quite a long time and think she will be an extraordinary addition to our ANC.

Dr. Shirley Adelstein is my long-time friend and former colleague. She dedicates herself completely to all of her endeavors – professional, philanthropic, and political. I am certain our neighborhood would be in good hands with her as a member of ANC.

It was wonderful to meet Shirley Adelstein at one of the recent ANC meetings. Here experience and passion will make her an exceptional ANC Commissioner for 3F02 and someone who will will bring fresh energy and new perspectives to the already strong ANC team.
