Politics and Prose’s second location will keep mixing love of books and food

In 2013, the co-owners of Politics and Prose were giving a Georgetown location some serious thought.

A year later, Politics and Prose agreed to run the bookstores at Busboys and Poets. But it said nothing more publicly about plans for another standalone store – until recently.

Bradley Graham and Lissa Muscatine announced on May 30th that Politics and Prose will open a branch at Union Market (1309 5th Street NE) this fall. This location, in one of the warehouses located next to the market, will be smaller than the first. But P&P has big plans for an attached event space and for its neighbors.

Politics and Prose has been a good neighbor to its Connecticut Avenue neighbors, co-hosting cookbook author events with local restaurants and selling books at Bread Furst. WTOP reports the bookstore wants to develop the same relationships with its foodie neighbors at Union Market.

“There are all these fantastic spaces operated by vendors in the food business, so there is the possibility of partnering with those businesses and offering something with an author and maybe a food tasting or beer or wine flight,” Jon Purves, Politics and Prose’s director of marketing, told WTOP.

There’s something about northeast DC. P&P’s nearby neighbor Little Red Fox is opening a sister location in the Brookland neighborhood. There, the specialty will be breakfast tacos.
