As Forest Hills Connection has reported, Wilson High School faces a sizable budget cut for the next school year even though it’s expecting a ten percent increase in enrollment.
The ramifications of this cut impact staffing, class sizes and a school programming not only for Ward 3 students but for the many students who come from the other DC wards. Wilson PTSA President Kim Bayliss and Chair of the Local School Advisory Team, Jeff Kovar are asking that community members show their support by signing this petition calling on the the DC Council, Mayor Bowser and DCPS Chancellor Kaya Henderson to return $900,000 to Wilson’s budget. This amounts to approximately $500 per student – and is about half of the planned budget cut.
In addition, they ask you to contact your Council member and the four at-large members to register your personal support.
Time is of the essence. Representatives for Wilson will testify at a Council hearing tomorrow, the budget markup hearings will be held from May 12 through the 15th, and the main Council vote on the budget is scheduled for May 27th.
