Forest Hills Connection | News and Life in Our DC Neighborhood
Covering Forest Hills, Van Ness, North Cleveland Park and Wakefield
April 20th
1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Learn about the remarkable life of William Beckett, who was once the enslaved manager of Joshua Peirce’s nursery business on Linnaean Hill, now Rock Creek Park headquarters. New evidence reveals that Beckett was also Peirce’s son; his mother was an enslaved woman named Mary Beckett.
Friends of Peirce Mill and a Howard University PhD candidate will present their findings during an April 20th conversation at Peirce Mill, followed by a reception at Klingle Mansion, which will also be the site of an outdoor exhibit on Beckett. There will be a free shuttle bus between the two locations.
