Meet the Candidates: Monika Nemeth for ANC 3F06

October 4, 2018 by FHC

The November 6th ballot includes ANC commissioners. Forest Hills Connection has invited the candidates for ANC 3F to tell us about themselves and how they wish to serve the neighborhood. The candidates for ANC 3F02 introduced themselves yesterday.

ANC 3F06 is the other single member district with a contested race. The candidates are Monika Nemeth and William (Bill) Sittig. Here is Sittig’s statement. Here is Nemeth’s:

My name is Monika Nemeth, and I have been a homeowner for over 15 years on Alton Place.

Monika Nemeth

I arrived in DC as a college freshman in 1983 and remained upon graduating from American University. I am a Program Manager for the Navy Marine Corps Intranet. I am also a former Realtor with WC and AN Miller who used to work in the area.

I am a busy community activist and am a member of the Bowser Administration. I had the honor of being appointed as a Commissioner in 2018 to the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on LGBTQ Affairs. I am a Producer for Capital Pride and Capital Trans Pride, and am on the Board of Directors of the Gertrude Stein Democratic Club of DC. I am also one of the founding leaders of the DC Chapter of Gay For Good a national volunteer service organization that aims to energize and mobilize the LGBTQ community to interact with the greater community by volunteering our time to various social welfare and environmental service projects.

I am passionate about the community which I call home as I am about the LGBTQ community. The community along Alton Pl has been wonderfully supportive as I went through my own transition. It is due to this passion that I seek to be the next Commissioner from ANC 3F06. I want to give back to the community that has given so much to me. My priorities include making Van Ness Main Street a vibrant community, improving city services and access, keeping our parks and streets clean and well-maintained, and supporting residents as they age-in-place.
