Absentee voting began this week, and early, in-person voting starts on October 22nd. As you prepare to mark your ballots, whether it’s now or on November 6th, be sure to read up on your candidate (or candidates) for ANC commissioner.
This week, we present the statements of the ANC 3F candidates who responded to our request to tell us about themselves. And we invite you to a meet-and-greet we are hosting for the candidates on Sunday, October 21st from 2-4 p.m. at the Methodist Home.
Why vote? Your ANC commissioner is your go-to person if you are concerned about the condition of your sidewalks, or pedestrian safety, or if you’d like to see more (or fewer) outdoor cafes on Connecticut Avenue, or music in restaurants on the weekends. Read more about what they do.
3F05 has the only contested race of the 3F election. The candidates are Meg Rosan and Manolis Priniotakis. Here is Meg Rosan’s statement:
I am running to be your Commissioner in ANC 3F05, and asking for your vote. Shortly after my husband and I bought our condominium on Connecticut Avenue in 2007, I won a seat on our condo board. I have remained an active member ever since, planning and overseeing major projects, serving on committees, and generally addressing the needs of our diverse condominium community. I wish now to expand my community service into the ANC.
My husband grew up in Forest Hills, and we have settled here with our daughter, almost 2, who loves the Forest Hills Playground and Story Time at the library. I want to give back to this community that provides so much for us by shaping decisions that affect our neighborhood.By day I am an attorney practicing in the areas of family law and personal injury litigation in both D.C. and Maryland. I’m trained to think critically and quickly, to negotiate solutions, and when faced with continuing opposition, to use the law as a tool to argue for and obtain results. As your Commissioner, I will apply these same skills in confronting and resolving issues affecting Forest Hills.
I am particularly concerned about pedestrian safety, crime prevention, and fostering healthy dialogue between local businesses and neighbors. However, I do not seek a position on the ANC because of any personal agenda. Instead, I hope to be a voice in the ANC3F that represents all my neighbors in Forest Hills. As your Commissioner, I will listen to you when you stop me on the sidewalk, when you raise an issue at an ANC meeting, or when you post feedback on my website or Facebook page.
Please read more about me and my campaign at MegRosanforANC.com, or on Facebook at Facebook.com/MegRosanforANC. And, thank you for your vote.
