An update from the local group that helps care for our playround:
It’s time for a little spring cleaning at Forest Hills Playground!
Friends of Forest Hills Playground is holding its next cleanup on Saturday, May 21, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. (UPDATE: Rescheduled due to rain for Saturday, June 4th, 10-11:30 a.m.).
Bring gloves, trash bags, brooms (kid-sized too) and rakes if you’ve got ’em. We’ll also accept donations of donuts and coffee!
Even little ones can help sweep sand back into the sandbox and pick up trash. Got teens? Volunteer service hours are available. Please RSVP here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/409084badae2fa64-forest. Forest Hills Playground, also known as Chesapeake Park, is located at 32nd and Chesapeake Streets.
Also, if you enjoyed the “Final Fridays” concerts at the park last summer, stay tuned. We’ll be asking for volunteers to help out with this summer’s series. We’re sticking with the final Friday of the month, so mark your calendars for June 24, July 29 and August 26 events. The time commitment is minimal and it’s with a great group of people (if we do say so).
Two of these great people, FoFHP co-presidents Alexandra Chalupa and Virginia Marentette, have stepped down after four years as group leaders. They worked closely with DPR throughout the playground’s 2014 renovation and led planning of the park’s very first summer concert series in 2015. They remain on the board.
Also, Marelise Voss, who became the group’s treasurer in 2015, is leaving the treasurer position after moving out of the neighborhood.
At FoFHP’s April 18th board meeting, members elected new officers: Kate Tarbert – President, Kirsten Metzger – Vice President, Julia Rosenthal – Treasurer and Tracy Johnke – Secretary/Communications Manager.
