Backyard Nature: An August insect serenade

It is too late now to hear the songs of most birds. Even the wood thrush has stopped its singing. I miss it. Next year.

But the cacophony of nature continues in late August as insects take a starring role. Please take out your ear buds for a few minutes and listen to the sounds that abound in the early morning or in the evening when the sun goes down.

What are you hearing? Marjorie Rachlin wrote all about the August backyard symphony in 2016.

Also, if you walk along Linnean Avenue by the overgrown Broad Branch Stream, you can still hear the green frogs on the west side singing along. – Marlene Berlin
